Service tax registration is needed when your turnover exceeds 9 lakh rupees but in the case of sole proprietorship firm, most of the people apply service tax registration because in order to open a current bank account, banks need at least one legal certification of their firm.

 

Common Documents required for service tax registration

  1. Copy of the PAN Card of the proprietor or the legal entity to be registered
  2. Photograph and proof of identity of the person filling the application namely PAN Card,

Passport, Voter ID Card, Aadhar Card, Driving License or any other photo identity card issued by the Central Government, State Government or Public Sector Undertaking

  1. Document to establish possession of the premises to be registered such as proof of ownership, lease or rent agreement, allotment letter from the government, NOC from the legal owner
  2. Details of the main bank account
  3. Memorandum/ Articles of Association/ List of Directors
  4. Authorization by the Board of Directors/Partners/Proprietor for the person filing the application
  5. Business Transaction Numbers obtained from other government departments or agencies such as Customs Registration No. (BIN No.), Import Export Code (IEC) No., Goods & Services Tax No. (GST)

 

Documents Required for Service Tax Registration of a Private Limited Company

  1. Memorandum/ Articles of Association
  2. List of directors with IDs & address proofs
  3. Board Resolution regarding authorizing any director of the company to sign, deal and comply with provision of the service tax rules and regulations

 

Documents Required for Service Tax Registration of a Partnership Firm

  1. Partnership Deed Copy
  2. All the Partners ID and Address Proof
  3. Business Transaction Numbers obtained from other government departments or agencies such as Customs Registration No. (BIN No.), Import Export Code (IEC) No., Goods & Services Tax No. (GST) which have been issued prior to the filing of the Service Tax Registration application

 

 

Some Important Points Regarding the Documents required for Service Tax Registration

  1. Documents should be self-attested copies
  2. Pan Card is mandatory of the proprietor or legal entity
  3. Aadhar Card or Voter ID or Driving License address must not be at the business place address
  4. Most State Service tax departments accept utility bills copy as business address proof
  5. In some cases, undertaking and declaration is needed by the department
  6. ST-2 is issued within 2 days after the submission of application but in some cases, department will proceed only after the getting original documents

 

The above mentioned documents are required for service tax registration. Service tax registration is completely an online procedure but it is required to send the documents to the department.
